Fondée en 1966 par Daniel Templon, rue Bonaparte dans le Quartier de Saint Germain des Prés, la galerie s’est installée en 1972, au 30 rue Beaubourg, à quelques centaines de mètres du futur Centre Georges Pompidou (ouvert en 1977). La galerie s’est d’abord fait connaître par son programme autour de l’art conceptuel et minimal : Martin Barré, Christian Boltanski, Donald Judd, Joseph Kosuth, Richard Serra. Dès les années 70, la galerie fait découvrir au public français les grands noms de l’art américain : Dan Flavin, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol. Elle s’impose rapidement comme une des galeries de référence dans la promotion de l’art contemporain en France. Nombreux sont les artistes, entrés aujourd’hui dans l’histoire, qui ont exposé sur les cimaises de la galerie. Aujourd’hui la galerie représente une trentaine d’artistes internationaux. Son programme cherche un promouvoir un dialogue entre différentes générations : artistes établis de l’art contemporain "classique", artistes internationaux de milieu de carrière, et expériences de jeunes artistes. La galerie collabore activement avec les musées et institutions pour concevoir des expositions et des publications. Elle poursuit une politique importante de production d’oeuvres et publie régulièrement des catalogues sur ses expositions. La galerie possède deux espaces d’exposition à Paris (30 rue Beaubourg et Impasse Beaubourg) et un espace à Bruxelles. Elle participe à de nombreuses foires internationales, dont la FIAC depuis 1974 et ART BASEL depuis 1978. It first opened rue Bonaparte, in Saint Germain des Prés in Paris, before moving in 1972 to its current location, rue Beaubourg, only a 5 mn walk from the Pompidou Center (opened in 1977). Daniel Templon first gained recognition by exhibiting conceptual and minimal artists such as Martin Barré, Christian Boltanski, Donald Judd, Joseph Kosuth, Richard Serra. In the seventies, Daniel Templon was one of the pioneers of the contemporary art and introduced many important American artists to the French public: Dan Flavin, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol. The gallery quickly became one the references in contemporary art in France. Many artists, now part of art history, have exhibited with the gallery. Today the gallery represents a group of thirty international artists. The program promotes a dialogue between generations: established artists, international mid-career artists, and the cutting edge experiences of younger artists. The gallery also provides curatorial expertise and assistance in the mounting of exhibitions by its artists in museums or international exhibitions. Many of its artists have participated in international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Documenta, the Whitney Biennale etc. The gallery is involved in the production of its artists and is committed to a strong editorial policy with the publication of exhibition catalogues. The gallery has two exhibition spaces in Paris (rue Beaubourg and Impasse Beaubourg) and one in Brussels, Belgium. The gallery participates in art fairs worldwide, including FIAC since 1974 and ART BASEL since 1978.
